About the race
The Routeburn Classic is an annual adventure trail run held in April along New Zealand’s Routeburn Track inside Fiordland National Park, a designated World Heritage Area. The event covers 32 km and is limited to 400 athletes.
The course travels through a mix of environments, from native bush to exposed alpine terrain, and includes sustained uphill sections and technically demanding descents. The route reaches elevations reported around 1127 metres above sea level.
First held in 2001, the event was acquired by Ultimate Events in 2023. Organisers stage the race as an exclusive field with a capped number of competitors. The event information indicates transport, accommodation, and race FAQs are provided to participants, and the race has a history of partner support and connections with local conservation groups.
