Rim to River 100

The Rim to River 100 is a 100 mile out-and-back ultramarathon held in the New River Gorge region of West Virginia, beginning and ending at ACE Adventure Resort. The course mixes single-track trail, dirt roads, and paved sections, totaling approximately 84 miles of trail, 6 miles of dirt road, and 10 miles of paved surface. Total ascent and descent are each about 12,000 feet, and elevation ranges from 823 to 2,015 feet.

The route travels from rim to river repeatedly, passing waterfalls, whitewater, historic ghost town ruins, old cemeteries, and abandoned mine shafts. Notable features include an unbridged crossing of Arbuckle Creek, multiple wooden bridges that can be slippery or damaged, and the Long Point overlook which requires runners to collect a keychain as proof of passage. Significant aid stations and crew access points are listed at Concho Rim, Cunard, Bike Farm, Hawks Nest, Fayette Station, and Erskine with specific mileages noted on the course map.

Race procedures emphasize safety and resource self-sufficiency: the event is cup free, participants must carry personal hydration and a headlamp for night running, and runners must follow National Park Service rules on NPS lands. Crews may only assist at designated aid stations and are limited in number and behavior. Pacers must register, be at least 18 years old, wear a visible pacer bib, sign a release, and may join runners only at specified locations. Drop bags are accepted at designated aid stations and must be turned in before the race. Cutoff times at aid stations apply and violations of race rules can lead to disqualification.

Proceeds support Adventure Appalachia, a nonprofit that funds and connects people to outdoor education and guided experiences in the New River Gorge region. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
