Pine Mountain Trail Run
The Pine Mountain Trail Run is a multi-distance trail event held at FDR State Park in Pine Mountain, Georgia. The event marks its 46th anniversary and has been recognized by UltraRunning Magazine as an "Old School Ultra."
Distances offered include:
- 10K Trail Open
- 19-Miler single-loop
- 40-Miler
- 46-Miler OG Invitational
- Virtual 400-Mile Challenge
The course is well marked and official waterproof trail maps are available at the park headquarters or from the Pine Mountain Trail Association. Trail surface includes rocky and leaf-covered sections with uneven footing that can be rough on ankles. The topography is rolling hills with long gradual climbs; the Pine Mountain Trail elevation ranges from about 899 ft to 1395 ft. There are a few minor stream crossings that may be ankle deep depending on water levels.
Logistics and policies are explicit: packets must be picked up in person and will not be mailed. The event is 100 percent non-profit and a portion of proceeds will support FDR State Park and Georgia State Parks. There are no refunds, transfers, or deferrals. Parking requires a State Park parking pass displayed on the dashboard and a daily parking fee applies unless using an annual park pass. Vehicles must be parked completely off the road and not block Hwy 190.
Participants should be prepared for variable early December weather, carry a safety light, and have cold and wet weather gear. The course is subject to change; updates are provided by the organizers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
