New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race
The New River Gorge Rim to Rim Race is a road running event that traverses from one rim of the New River Gorge down to the river, crosses the New River, and returns to the rim with a short trail section to finish. The distance is 6 miles. Runners should expect an 800 ft descent and an 800 ft climb, with the steepest point reported at a 20% incline.
The event is hosted by Active Southern West Virginia at Adventures on the Gorge. The course begins on the south side of Fayette Station Road and finishes at Adventures on the Gorge, where the finish area is located at the resort rim side pool. Brunch is included with registration and will be available after the finish.
The event uses a closed road course and chip timing. Additional on-course and race-day services include a water station, bus transportation to the start line, a finisher medal, and a short sleeve t-shirt. Walkers are permitted but must maintain a 20 minute per mile pace to complete the course within the closed road time frame.
Registration opens August 31 with tiered fees through the season and a last minute option on race weekend if space is available. Participants may add RegShield event insurance at checkout to receive a full refund of registration and transaction fees if unable to attend for covered reasons. Awards are given to top finishers in each age bracket in the running category only.
