About the race
The Harper Digital Coastal Challenge is an urban coastal running event on Auckland’s North Shore. Established in 2003, the 25th edition takes place on Saturday 20 February 2027 and finishes at Windsor Reserve in Devonport. The event route uses a series of beaches and coastal tracks where participants will run, walk, wade, and rock hop along the shoreline; the organiser notes that participants will get wet on course.
Multiple course distances start at different beaches, with options listed below:
- 6 km Beach Hopper starting at Takapuna Beach
- 11 km Bay Scrambler starting at Milford Beach
- 17 km Mini Monty starting at Browns Bay
- 22 km Mid Monty starting at Long Bay
- 33 km Full Monty and teams relay starting at Arkles Bay, Whangaparoa
The event has environmental measures to reduce waste. Disposable cups are removed from aid stations and participants are asked to carry a reusable cup, hydration pack, or water bottle. Collapsible silicone cups will be available for purchase at event base.
A community activity called Love Your Coast encourages people to jog local beaches or streams while picking up litter and sharing photos.
