Castle Carr
Castle Carr is a category AL fell race of about 24 km with approximately 1200 m of ascent. The route runs through the private Castle Carr estate and then makes an anticlockwise circuit of Midgley Moor, Warley Moor and Wadsworth Moor before returning through the estate. The course combines open moorland, extended climbs, runnable descents and faster sections.
The event base is Wadsworth Community Centre, Billy Lane, Old Town, Hebden Bridge, HX7 8RY. Parking is very limited. Public transport access is possible via Hebden Bridge station and local bus services, including the 595 to Wadsworth Community Centre.
Entries are available in advance with pre-entry fees of £7 for FRA members and £9 for non-members. Entry on the day may be possible only if the race limit is not reached; on-the-day fees are £8 (members) and £10 (non-members). Minimum age to enter is 18 years.
The race is licensed by the FRA under UKA rules and is a non-GPS race for navigation; GPS may be used to record a route but electronic devices must not be used to aid navigation except in an emergency. Competitors must carry FRA mandatory minimum kit: waterproof jacket and trousers with taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, map, compass, whistle and emergency food. A kit check is carried out before number allocation. There is a checkpoint timeout at CP7; late arrivals must report to the marshal, retire and make their own return arrangements.
