ZooTown Challenge Obstacle Course Race : Missoula, Montana

The ZooTown Challenge Obstacle Course Race takes place at Washington Grizzly Stadium and on nearby University of Montana campus routes, including sections of the M Trail, on September 26, 2026. The event offers multiple obstacle course categories and uses stadium and outdoor trail terrain.

Distances and main categories include:

  • Griz Double 10K 35 obstacles
  • ZooTown 5K 20 obstacles
  • ZooTown 3K approximately 3 kilometers
  • Kids Race ages 5 to 12
  • All Abilities Race specially designed course
  • Teams 5K team category

Teams consist of four racers and final standings are based on the combined time of all four team members; teams may assist each other on obstacles. The Kids Race is held inside the stadium after the expert and novice categories and the course was designed by Mismo Gymnastics. The All Abilities category is intended for athletes with physical or intellectual limitations and may pair a racer with a buddy to complete the specially adapted course.

Spectators are welcome and food trucks will operate in the North End Zone for both racers and spectators. Race proceeds are donated to Opportunity Resources Inc., a Missoula based organization that supports employment, creative projects, housing, and community involvement for people with disabilities. A steep 1.6 mile trail race up Mount Sentinel in Missoula with 1,970 feet of climbing, a free kids M Run, chip timing and postrace ice cream. The event is limited to 250 runners.

A Missoula trail weekend on June 7 with a 13.1-mile mountain half and a 6.2-mile 10K, cupless aid stations, capped fields, and virtual options running May 14 to June 23.

Trail races at Marshall Mountain in Missoula in May include team and solo 25K formats plus a 5 mile option. Courses use new looped trails and include notable climbing, with a post-race brunch and vendor village.

A community trail run on Mount Dean Stone paired with hands on bumble bee field training for the Montana Bumble Bee Atlas. Equipment is provided and youth must attend with an accompanying adult.
