Zombie Run 5K

Morganton, United States • 10 Oct 2026

Event Details

The event takes place on October 10, 2026 at Courthouse Square in downtown Morganton, North Carolina. The Rotary Club of Morganton organizes the event with sponsorship support from UNC Health Blue Ridge.

The Runs

Two events are offered.

  • Zombie Run 5K: This is not a standard run. Participants wear a Velcro belt with three flags. The goal is to finish the 5K course with as many flags as possible while avoiding "Zombies" stationed along the route who will try to take them. Flags can be turned in for prizes. Overall prizes are awarded for the fastest times combined with the most flags.
  • One Mile Family Fun Run: This is a separate one-mile event where participants do not interact with the Zombies. It is described as an opportunity for families and friends to run or walk together.

After Party and Amenities

An after party is held at the Courthouse Square following the runs. It features food from vendors like Arepitas and Big Daddy's Food Truck & Kountry Girl Bakery. Sidetracked Brewery will offer Zombie and Oktoberfest beers for purchase. The party includes activities, games, and music.

Registration and Proceeds

Registration for the Zombie Run 5K starts at $30, with the price increasing on September 1 and again on October 1. Registration for the Family Fun Run is $10. Fun Run participants receive two special gifts. Zombie Run participants are assured a long-sleeve t-shirt if registered by September 25, 2026. Proceeds from the event support Burke County Habitat for Humanity and The Enola Group. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
