Yellowstone Gateway 30K

Yellowstone Gateway 30K is an off-road trail race covering 18.2 miles with 2,609 ft of climbing and 2,366 ft of descent. The course begins on the Sage Lodge trails, moves through rolling grasslands of the Paradise Valley foothills near the Yellowstone River, and then ascends Emigrant Gulch beside Emigrant Creek. The route includes a roughly 10 mile climb followed by about 8 miles of descending terrain.

The surface is entirely off pavement and includes single and double track trails, gravel roads, USFS dirt roads, and scree-covered jeep paths. The upper section in Emigrant Gulch is an out-and-back; the remainder is point-to-point and finishes at Chico Hot Springs Resort. Runners will encounter creek crossings that are commonly ankle to calf deep and areas of very rocky, uneven ground.

There are three aid stations stocked with water, Tailwind Nutrition fuel drink, gels, and standard trail food. The event is cupless so participants must carry their own bottle or hydration system. Trail shoes are recommended; poles are optional. The course will be marked with flags, cones, and paint, and volunteers will be present at critical junctions.

Logistics include limited parking at the start with a shuttle service from the Chico Hot Springs parking area, drop bag transport to the finish, and Park County Search and Rescue support on course. All finishers receive a Yellowstone Gateway 30K hat and awards will be given to top finishers by gender, masters, and age group. The event emphasizes light tread and waste reduction at the post-race picnic. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
