Yellowstone Gateway 30K

The Yellowstone Gateway 30K is an off-road running event in Pray, Montana, taking place on September 20, 2026. The course covers just over 18 miles on a varied mix of terrains, including double track trails, gravel roads, dirt jeep roads, and scree paths. Participants start at Sage Lodge in Emigrant and finish at Chico Hot Springs Resort.

The route features a total elevation gain of 2,609 feet and a descent of 2,366 feet. The first 10 miles consist of a steady climb from the grasslands of the Paradise Valley foothills up into Emigrant Gulch. The highest point reaches 7,618 feet near the St. Julian Mine. The final 8 miles follow a downhill gradient back through the foothills. Two water crossings at Emigrant Creek are required, where water depth typically reaches between the ankle and calf.

The event follows a cupless policy to support sustainability. There are three aid stations located along the course at the following intervals:

  • 3.8 miles (Old Chico)
  • 7.0 miles (Emigrant Gulch)
  • 10.0 miles (St. Julian turnaround)
  • 13.0 miles (Emigrant Gulch)
  • 16.0 miles (Old Chico)

Aid stations provide water, Tailwind brand electrolyte drinks, gels, and standard trail food. Due to limited parking at the start, free shuttles are provided from Chico Hot Springs to the starting line at Sage Lodge. Participants receive a finisher hat, and top finishers across various categories receive awards. Post-race amenities include a meal and a swim pass for the resort pools.
