Winter's End

Winter's End takes place on 20 March 2027 on the South Downs Way. The event offers three trail race options that use point-to-point routes across the South Downs National Park and finish at either Queen Elizabeth Country Park or Winchester Athletics Track.

Distances offered:

  • 50 Mile Ultramarathon: Arundel to Winchester following the South Downs Way.
  • 50km Ultramarathon: Arundel to Queen Elizabeth Country Park via SDW and Serpent Trail.
  • Marathon: Queen Elizabeth Country Park to Winchester along the South Downs Way.

Courses are fully marked and follow chalk ridge routes, passing villages, ancient woodlands and landmarks such as Old Winchester Hill, Beacon Hill and Cheesefoot Head. Aid stations are well stocked with sweet and savoury snacks, vegan options, water and flat coke; the event operates as a cupless event. Precision Fuel & Hydration PH 1000 electrolyte liquid will be available on course and two PFH gels are provided at registration. Runners may opt to have a tree planted instead of receiving a finishers medal.

Logistics include coach transport from the finish to start locations and bag drop at each start line with bags transported to the finish. Mandatory kit requirements include a headtorch for 50 mile runners (and marathon runners likely to exceed seven hours), a jacket, a pack or belt for the tracker, and at least 500 ml of carried fluid. 50 mile runners will have a kit inspection before bib collection. Cut off times are set for each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
