Winter Thaw Out Race Series

The Winter Thaw Out Race Series runs from Sunday, February 22 to Sunday, March 15, 2026. It comprises four separate 5k trail races held on 02/22, 03/01, 03/08, and 03/15 at Elephant Swamp Trail in Elk Township Recreational Park, near 667 Whig Ln, Monroeville, NJ 08343. The trail surface is described as hard-packed and gravel, free of roots and not technical. Individual race entry is listed at $25 per event.

Format and logistics

Events in the series are scored using a point system (for example, 10 points for first place, 9 for second, and so on) with standings tracked for overall places and within age groups. Awards are presented at the end of the series rather than after each race. All participants in the series receive a medal; overall and age-group winners receive awards. A $20 discount applies when registering for all four races in a single transaction; the discount is applied automatically at checkout. Entrants who register for the full series will receive a custom neck scarf if registered by 02/11 to be guaranteed. Hot chocolate is provided at every race. The races are produced by Even Kiel Racing. Note that the park does not have an official street address; nearby references include the police station at 667 Whig Ln and Aura Elementary School across the street.
