Winter Pairs 3 race series is a three-race fell series for seniors only, organised by SW Fellrunners and licensed under FRA rules. Entries are limited to up to 35 pairs. Entry covers both runners for all three races; the lead runner completes the online entry. There are no entries on the day. The series is open and the first race date is 17 January 2026. Discounted entry is listed at £33.00 and standard at £36.00; a service fee of 4% (minimum 50p) applies per sign-up.

Race format, routes and rules

Distances and climbs:

  • Western Tors - 16k, 700 m climb, B class.
  • Eastern Tors - 21k, 715 m climb, A class.
  • Central Tors - 20k, 750 m climb, A class.

All races are run in pairs; no solo entries are allowed. Timing is based on the second runner in each pair. Courses are unmarked and require navigation; there will be orienteering-style checkpoints and one intermediate manned checkpoint. Route maps on the website are indicative and the precise route and route card are provided at the start. A bonus checkpoint is optional. Prizes are for results across all three races: fastest pair, fastest all-female pair, fastest mixed pair. Proceeds cover prizes and a donation to North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Safety and kit

Teams must carry mandatory kit: full body cover plus spare top, full waterproofs, hat, gloves, whistle, headtorch, survival bag per team, small first aid kit, small emergency rations, 500 ml liquid, Dartmoor map and compass. Mobile phone tracking for one phone per race is included in the fee; the lead runner must agree to share contact details and use the webscorer app. Filled FRA entry forms with emergency contact details are required for the first race.
