Winter Pairs 3 Race Series

Princetown, United Kingdom • 17 Jan 2026

Event overview

The Winter Pairs 3 race series is a three-race fell running series for seniors only, limited to up to 35 pairs. The three races are licensed under FRA rules and are set on Dartmoor terrain with unmarked routes that require navigation. Distances and climbs for each race are:

  • 16 km with about 700 m climb
  • 21 km with about 715 m climb
  • 20 km with about 750 m climb

Prizes are awarded for overall results across the three races: Fastest Pair, fastest all-female pair, and fastest mixed pair. There are no age-group prizes due to the limited field. Proceeds cover prizes with the remainder donated to North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team.

Format, rules and kit

Entries are for pairs only; solo entries are not permitted. Timing is based on the second runner in the pair. The course is not marked; there will be orienteering-style checkpoints and one manned intermediate checkpoint. Competitors must punch all checkpoints to be credited with a completion unless they can provide acceptable evidence.

Mandatory kit per team includes full body cover plus a spare top, full waterproofs, hat, gloves, whistle, head torch, a survival bag, small first aid kit, small emergency rations, at least 500 ml of liquid, a Dartmoor map and a compass, and suitable footwear.

Entries and logistics

Entry is made online by the lead runner and covers both team members for all three races; the fee includes a mobile tracking charge for one phone per race. There are no entries on the day. Lead runners must provide contact details for tracking and bring completed FRA entry forms with emergency contact details for both runners for the first race. A service fee of 4% (minimum 50p) applies to sign-ups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
