Exe to Axe

The Exe to Axe is an annual trail running event from Exmouth to Seaton along the Southwest Coast Path. The 2026 running is the 22nd edition and covers 22 miles for the full course. The event also includes relay options and a shorter Sidmouth to Seaton course.

Distances and options:

  • Exe to Axe - 22 miles from Exmouth to Seaton
  • Exe to Axe Relay - 22 miles split into 2, 3 or 4 sections
  • Sid to Axe - Sidmouth to Seaton, the second half of the route

The event is chip timed. Registration for 2026 takes place at Sideshore, at the same location as the start. The finish is on the beach in Seaton opposite the Mariner's Hotel; the hotel provides shelter, toilets, and food and drink facilities. Pre-race transport is available from Seaton Coach Park and there is parking at Seaton Long Stay Car Park. Runners can have hand baggage transported from start to finish.

Checkpoints with water and snacks are located near Budleigh Salterton, Sidmouth and Branscombe. Age and participation rules apply: the full course requires entrants to be 18 or older; relay teams may include younger runners with limits on which stages they may run.
