Winter Excalibur

Winter Excalibur is a trail running event scheduled for 1 November 2026 near Moel Famau. Race HQ is at Coed Moel Famau car park CH& 5SH. Registration opens on the day at Race HQ and pre ordered T shirts and hoodies can be collected there.

Distances:

  • 17 km 17.38 km (10.8 miles), 843 m ascent
  • 10 km 10 km (6.2 miles), 412 m ascent

Both routes run mainly on trails and footpaths, cross farmland and include hilly and some more technical sections. The course is waymarked with Excalibur signs and staffed with marshals and numbered checkpoints. At checkpoints participants will find water in containers with taps and snack items; there will not be cups, so competitors must carry a refillable bottle and a full bottle at the start.

All competitors must carry waterproof jacket and trousers, hat or buff, gloves, the supplied map, a compass, a whistle and a refillable water bottle. Kit checks will be random and the Race Director may relax the minimum kit on the day. Mountain Rescue will be available on the course and sweepers will follow the tail end.

Finish facilities include soup, hot food sellers, drinks and toilets. The event will not hand out single use plastic bottles to finishers and there will be no medal; a sustainable memento will be provided. Entry fees shown are 17 km £40 and 10 km £35. Trail runs nearby

Free women only trail meet up on 28 June 2027 offering social runs of 5 to 10 km led by SheUltra Ambassadors. Loggerheads session includes a 10 km route; places are limited and parking is pay and display.

An approximately four mile multi terrain race on 2 July 2026, starting and finishing at Care & Repair on Rowley’s Drive in Shotton. Entry is £10 or £8 for affiliated club members and prizes are given across all age categories.

A fell race of 8.7 km with 700 m ascent around Moel Siabod, partially marked and requiring navigation. Entry on the day is £5 and junior races are included as part of the Capel Curig Village Festival.

A running race from the Druid Inn near Llanferres covering 8 km with 366 m of climb. The course is BS partially marked and entry is £4 on the day; parking is limited so car sharing is advised.
