The route begins with about three miles mainly uphill following the river to Shipley Bridge, with one or two brief descents. There is a tarmac section that remains slightly uphill before the route reaches Dartmoor. Runners turn right at Avon Dam, cross below the Abbot’s Way and head south east, emerging near a boundary fence close to the head of the Harbourne and exiting the moor near Dockwell Farm. The return follows Brent Hill and Lydia Bridge; Brent Hill is described as muddy.
