Four Reservoirs Ultra Trail Run, Shotley Bridge, County Durham

The Four Reservoirs Ultra Trail Run takes place on 18 October 2026, starting and finishing in Shotley Bridge near Consett in County Durham. The event is offered in two distances and uses local trails, footpaths and minor roads to connect moorland ridges, wooded gorges and several reservoirs.

Distances

  • 25 km Trail Run: follows ultra to Rowley Station; descends beside A68 to Allensford Park.
  • 53 km Ultra Trail Run: circular from Shotley Bridge via Derwent Walk and Waskerley Way.

The 53 km route passes Waskerley, Smiddy Shaw and Hisehope Reservoirs, includes a road section through Muggleswick with views over Derwent Reservoir, and uses footpaths in Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods before returning via Ebchester, Hamsterley and the Derwent Walk line.

There are three feed stations on the 53 km course and one on the 25 km course. Feed stations are stocked with VOOM Nutrition Pocket Rockets, VOOM Hydration and a range of sweet and savoury snacks.

For safety, 53 km runners must carry a backpack with fluids, a charged mobile phone with ICE contacts saved, food or gels, a lightweight jacket and a headtorch, which is required if finishing after 5pm. The 53 km must be completed within 9.5 hours of daylight. Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North. All finishers receive an event medal, a long sleeved event top and a drink and snack.
