Four Reservoirs Ultra Trail Run : Shotley Bridge, County Durham : 18 October 2026

The event offers two waymarked trail distances around Shotley Bridge that showcase moorland ridges, woodland footpaths and reservoir views across County Durham. The 53 km route is circular and includes sections on Derwent Walk, Waskerley Way, and footpaths through Derwent Gorge and Muggleswick Woods.

Distances

  • 25 km Trail Run: follows the Ultra route to Rowley Station, descends to Allensford Park, rejoins via Ebchester.
  • 53 km Ultra: circular route via Derwent Walk, Waskerley Way, Waskerley and several reservoirs.

There are three feed stations on the 53 km route and one on the 25 km. Stations are stocked with VOOM Nutrition Pocket Rockets, VOOM Hydration and a range of sweet and savoury snacks.

For safety, 53 km entrants must carry a backpack with fluids, a charged mobile phone with ICE contacts saved, food or gels, a lightweight jacket and a headtorch. The 53 km Ultra must be completed within 9.5 hours of daylight. The organisers state this is a running event and is not intended for competitors planning to walk the full route.

Live chip timing is provided. All finishers receive an event medal, a long-sleeved event top, and a drink and snack. Free car parking is available at Shotley Bridge Hospital and Surgery. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

A self navigated mountain trail event following about 37 miles of the Pennine Way between Bowlees and Alston YHA, featuring waterfalls, reservoirs and high tops including Crossfell. The event includes transfer bus and limited places.

Participate in a 9 km fell race through the Durham countryside north of Stanhope. This event is part of the North East Fell Running Championships and features a 300 m climb for runners aged 18 and over.

A muddy 5 km obstacle course at Town Moor, Newcastle on 11 July 2026 with climbs, crawls and slides. The event has a £50 fundraising target, labelled entry fees, and limited on-site parking and accessibility.

Chapelfell Top is an AS graded 7 km fell race in St. John’s Chapel, Weardale featuring 400 m of ascent to the 703 m summit and a return on the same route. The event is organised by Durham Fell Runners and run under FRA rules.
