Course and support
The course follows a roughly 13-mile loop on hiking trails through pine forest, winding rivers, cypress swamps, and moss-draped trees. Surface is wide dirt single-track with some roots and bridges. Elevation gain is about 300 feet per 13-13.5 mile loop. Historic average temperatures are listed between 52 and 71 degrees. Water-carrying systems are required for the 13M, 27M, and 40M events; the 40M also requires a headlamp for nighttime sections. Aid stations are located around the loop (including a main aid at mile 13 with parking and drop-bag access); stations provide food, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. Ruck weight rules: runners over 150 lbs carry 30 lb, under 150 lbs carry 20 lb; ruck sack or vest allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
