Course, support and rules
The course is primarily a 13-mile loop for the longer distances; the 10K follows a different route. Surface is wide dirt single-track trails with some roots and bridges. Elevation is described as relatively flat with about 300 feet of elevation per 13.5 mile loop. Historic average temperatures are 52 to 71 degrees.
Aid stations are positioned on the loop (examples: Longleaf at mile 3.5, Stagecoach at mile 7.5, a water station near mile 11.7, and the main aid station at mile 13). Aid stations provide hot and cold food, snacks, water, electrolytes, pickle juice, and ice. Rules and requirements: water-carrying system required for the 13M, 27M, and 40M events; headlamp is required for the night portion of the 40 Miler; ruck weight rules apply (30 lb if over 150 lb, 20 lb if under 150 lb). Pacers are allowed for the 40 Miler only, limited to one pacer per runner on the final loop. Participants who drop must notify staff at the start/finish area.
