Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 miler

Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 is a 50-mile trail race held on Saturday 8th May 2027, with total elevation gain of about 7,337 ft and an entry fee of £70. The route is partly out-and-back with an additional loop run in one direction. The course passes coastal paths, marshes, ancient woodland, picture‑book villages, and open moorland, including an ascent over Dunkery Beacon and a section that reaches the hamlet of Culbone with the UK’s smallest parish church.

The event starts and finishes at West Somerset College in Minehead. There are six aid stations; the race is cupless so participants must carry at least one 500 ml water bottle and a cup if they want drinks from the stations. Aid stations provide water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts, sweets and other snacks. Approximate distances from the start are: CP1 Bossington - 8 miles; CP2 Porlock Weir - 11 miles; CP3 Webber’s Post - 22 miles; CP4 Webber’s Post - 28 miles; CP5 Porlock Weir - 39 miles; CP6 Bossington - 42 miles.

Course markings are provided where needed, with good signage on the South West Coast Path but limited marking over Dunkery Beacon; a GPX file is supplied with race information. Professional medical cover is provided and the race has a 16 hour cut-off. Awards include a trophy for first male and first female and medals for all finishers. Suggested kit is listed in the race information. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
