Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50
The Westcountry Ultra Hilly 50 is a 50-mile trail race on Saturday 8 May 2027 around Minehead with approximately 7,337 ft of elevation and an entry fee of £70. The race uses West Somerset College in Minehead as both the start and finish location. The published cut-off time is 16 hours. The event is cupless and has six aid stations offering water, coke, squash, sandwiches, crisps, fruit, nuts, sweets and other snacks.
The route begins on a short flat tarmac section beside the coast, climbs North Hill, then descends Bossington Hill before running across Porlock marshes to Porlock Weir. The course continues through ancient woodland to Culbone and Worthy Wood, passes Porlock and the village of Horner, then climbs to Webber’s Post and over Dunkery Beacon. After the high ground the route returns via Webber’s Post and retraces parts of the course to Minehead. The terrain includes coastal sections, woodland, lanes and moorland. Some sections are waymarked; there is good signage on the South-West Coast Path and a GPX file is provided with the race information.
Professional medical cover is provided. Pacers are not allowed; support crews and supporters are permitted with guidance on considerate parking. Drop bags can be left at registration. Suggested kit includes a waterproof jacket, extra base layer, hat and gloves, headtorch and spare batteries, high visibility clothing, whistle, compass, a charged mobile and at least one 500 ml water bottle.
