Steaming to the Coast
Steaming to the Coast is a trail running event on Saturday 17th April 2027 based in Minehead, Somerset, that includes a steam train transfer from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard before runners return to Minehead on foot.
Entrants choose one of three distances:
- 11 km : Washford start
- 11.5 miles : Williton start
- 26.2 miles (marathon) : Bishops Lydeard start
The marathon route runs along the Quantock Hills ridgeline then drops to Williton and Washford, following sections of the Steam Coast Trail and the England Coast Path before finishing outside Minehead Station. Shorter distances start at their named stations and run back to Minehead. Route maps and GPX files are provided in advance.
The course is fully waymarked using orange arrows on a white background and small orange marker flags. Timing is provided by K2 sports. Aid stations are located at Lydeard Hill, Williton, Washford and Dunster Beach for the marathon, with two stations on the 11.5 mile route and one on the 11 km. This is a cupless event so participants must carry a reusable drinking vessel.
Marshals, radio support and medical cover are provided; an emergency contact number is printed on each bib. Cut off times are generous: 11 km six hours, 11.5 miles six hours 45 minutes, marathon eight hours. Finishers medals are available as an optional extra at booking.
