West Woods - SWOA League Regional Event takes place at West Woods, near Marlborough, and is a British Orienteering regional ranking event held with permission of Forestry England. Vehicle access is limited to 90 cars; a £2 contribution will be collected from each driver on arrival to encourage car sharing. Entry is online only and closes at 23:59 on 08-01-2026. There will be no entry on the day.
Courses and entry fees
Courses are provisional and subject to final controlling. Distances and climbs published are:
- BROWN - 8.8 km, 220 m climb - suitable for experienced orienteers only
- BLUE - 6.9 km, 155 m climb - suitable for experienced orienteers only
- GREEN - 5.3 km, 125 m climb - suitable for experienced orienteers only
- SHORT GREEN - 4.0 km, 100 m climb - suitable for experienced orienteers only
- LIGHT GREEN - 3.9 km, 95 m climb - suitable for orienteers with some experience
- ORANGE - 3.0 km, 75 m climb - suitable for all orienteers
- YELLOW - 2.2 km, 55 m climb - suitable for beginners
- WHITE - 1.7 km, 45 m climb - suitable for beginners
Fees differ for seniors, juniors/students, novice and group entries, and a non-member supplement and SI chip hire charges apply. Group entry is available only for White, Yellow or Orange courses.
Location, facilities and safety
West Woods is mainly mature woodland about 2.5 miles (4 km) southwest of Marlborough. Assembly is in the public parking area; parking will be along the main forest track and is marshal-controlled. Facilities at assembly include toilets and a first aid tent; there will be no caterer. The map is 1:10,000, 5 m contours, overprinted on waterproof paper. Timing uses SportIdent; SIAC-enabled controls may be used and hire dibbers will be non-SIAC. Full leg cover and carrying a whistle are mandatory. Competitors must report to download if retiring. Organisers request bio-security measures for footwear and kit and advise against bringing dogs due to reported cases of Alabama Rot. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
