Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run

The Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run is an annual event held in Point Arena on the Mendocino Coast. The course takes place within the Point Arena-Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument. The route starts behind City Hall in a conifer forest located off Highway 1. From there, the path leads to the coastline, where participants follow the bluffs before winding back into a forest of pine and cypress trees.

The event accommodates both runners and hikers. Participants receive an organic cotton t-shirt and snacks as part of their registration. Awards are provided for different age categories, featuring hand-made medallions created by Point Arena Tileworks.

Proceeds from the event support ACORN Partners in Education and their environmental stewardship program, Students Protecting the Coast. This program focuses on conservation, community outreach, and hands-on learning for youth regarding the coastal landscape. The organization aims to host a sustainable event that honors the natural surroundings and supports the continued protection of the local land.
