Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run

The Waves & Whales 5K Trail Run is an annual event held on May 9, 2026, in Point Arena, California, at 451 School Street. The course uses the Point Arena Stornetta Unit of the California Coastal National Monument and begins behind City Hall in the conifer forest off Highway 1. It proceeds to the coast where it follows the bluffs, then returns through pine and cypress forest.

Proceeds support ACORN Partners in Education’s environmental stewardship program, Students Protecting the Coast. That program engages youth in hands on learning focused on conservation and community outreach. Students Protecting the Coast began during the 2012–13 school year as part of the campaign to include the Point Arena Stornetta Lands in the California Coastal National Monument, and participants continue to share what they learn with the local community.

ACORN states the event is organized with sustainability and community education in mind. Hikers are welcome. Participants receive an organic cotton t shirt and snacks, and the event includes age categories and awards, with hand made award medallions from Point Arena Tileworks.
