Wausau Trail Run - Overview
The Wausau Trail Run is a trail running event held in July 2026 in central Wisconsin at Nine Mile County Forest. Registration for the 2026 event opens January 1, 2026. The event includes evening running on forest trails, and maps for the courses are published in June; maps and distances are subject to change and distances may vary due to winding trails.

Courses use a combination of single-track mountain bike and ski trails. The 5K and 10K courses pass Red Bud Road at about mile 1. The half marathon includes a checkpoint called Checkpoint Charlie at approximately mile 8.
Rules, services and logistics
Only registered racers, credentialed media, and event staff may be on the designated racecourse; spectators must stay clear of the course. Runners must display their race number on the front. All runners are required to carry at least one light source; half marathon runners are encouraged to carry a second light. No listening devices covering either ear are allowed on course. Dogs are allowed on the venue on leash but not on the racecourse. First aid is provided by Wisconsin Mountain Bike Patrol throughout the weekend. Water and nutrition are available at Red Bud Road and Checkpoint Charlie. Parking is free; carpooling and parking on Red Bud Road are encouraged. Awards are given for 1st-3rd in male and female divisions by age categories, and recipients must be present to receive awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
