Wausau Trail Run
The Wausau Trail Run takes place in central Wisconsin at Nine Mile County Forest each July. The event uses a lap format on a marked loop of about 5 kilometers; runners complete 1, 2 or 4 laps to create 5K, 10K, and 20K race options. The course follows a combination of single track mountain bike and ski trails; distances are approximate because trails are winding and maps may change.
This is a Friday evening trail event and the start/finish area is the only location with lighting. All runners must carry at least one light source. Packet pick up, a pre-race meeting, awards and onsite results are part of the event. Awards are given to 1st through 3rd place male and female in standard age categories and recipients must be present to receive awards.
Logistics and rules include free parking with carpooling and parking on Red Bud Road encouraged, and camping available for participants in Wausau 24 on Saturday and Sunday. Only registered racers, credentialed media and event staff may run on the course; spectators may watch but must stay clear. No dogs are allowed on the racecourse.
Safety and support: Wisconsin Mountain Bike Patrol provides first aid coverage. Water and nutrition are available at Red Bud Road and at Checkpoint Charlie. Listening devices in the ears are not permitted on course and shortcutting results in disqualification. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
