Event overview
The Wausau Trail Run is a late-July trail running event held in central Wisconsin at Nine Mile County Forest. Registration for the 2026 event opens January 1, 2026. The run takes place on a Friday evening and begins as the sun is about to set, so participants must carry lights. After the race there is live music, food and beer on site.

Course, logistics and rules
The courses use a combination of single-track mountain bike and ski trails. Parking is free; carpooling and parking on Red Bud Road are encouraged. Camping is available for those participating in the related Wausau 24 events.
Only registered racers, credentialed media and event staff may run on the designated racecourse. Spectators must stay clear of the course and dogs are not allowed on course. Runners must display their race number on the front and carry at least one light source; Half Marathon runners are encouraged to carry a second light. Aid and safety: Wisconsin Mountain Bike Patrol will be on course and water/nutrition will be available at Red Bud Road and at Checkpoint Charlie (about mile 8 of the Half Marathon). Awards are given 1st–3rd male and female in standard age groups; recipients must be present to receive awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
