The event in Emmet County, Michigan offers three trail distances and finishes at Mackinaw City School athletic grounds. Registration is online only with a deadline of July 6, 2026. Participant limits are listed per distance: 50K (100), Marathon (100), Half Marathon (200). There are published time limits for each distance.

  • 50K : includes a five mile section on the Sturgeon Bay Trail
  • Marathon : follows much of the same route as the 50K
  • Half Marathon : starts near Goose Pond in Wilderness State Park

Course, aid and logistics

The route follows a section of the North Country Trail between Cross Village and Mackinaw City and is reported as over 90% single track. Terrain includes rolling bluffs overlooking Lake Michigan, coastal forests, inland wilderness lakes and sections of converted rail trail and pine-needle carpeted forest. Aid stations are located along each course: the marathon has five, the 50K has six, and the half marathon has two. All runners are required to carry a 20 oz water bottle or similar refillable hydration system. Runners are bused from Mackinaw City School to their respective starts and gear bags are transported back to the finish. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before the race at Mackinaw City School. Experience the scenic Great Turtle Trail Run on Mackinac Island with a half marathon or 5.7 mile run or walk along shoreline and island trails. Finishers get a commemorative garment, medal, free photos and refreshments.
