Watlington XC 10k
The Watlington XC 10k is a cross country race now in its 17th year. The course follows a section of the ancient Ridgeway trail and moves into the wooded Chiltern Hills. Runners face a steep climb, a steep descent down Shirburn Hill with views over the Oxfordshire plain, a fast section through beech woods, and another steep ascent of Watlington Hill. The final section is a fast, twisting single-track descent back to the Ridgeway where careful foot placement is required.
The event is run in the spirit of fell running, with a relaxed atmosphere and a sense of camaraderie. There is no chip timing. The race is licensed by the TRA and run under UK Athletics rules. Runners must be 16 or over.
Registration and Race HQ are at The Spire & Spoke, Hill Road, Watlington OX49 5AD. The event is sold out; only pre-registered runners can take part and there are no entries on the day. Champagne prizes are awarded to the fastest male and female finisher. After the race, everyone with a race number is offered a free drink at The Spire & Spoke. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
