Vulcan's Fury Trail Race
The event takes place at Pawtuckaway State Park in Nottingham, New Hampshire, near the pavilion at 128 Mountain Road (coordinates 43°05'15.9"N 71°09'36.1"W). Distances offered include:
- Half Marathon
- 5 Miler
The course runs on hiking and single-track trails with sections that require careful negotiation. Features include a large boulder field, dense forest, single-track switchbacks, stream crossings, bridges, and a rocky slope named the Devil's Staircase. The terrain is described as rugged and the lava that formed the park has long cooled.
There are three aid stations along the course providing water and other supplies. GPX files are available for both distances. The event notes a strict no day-of registration policy and no early bib pickup. There are two parking lots available at the park; some GPS systems may show alternate street numbering for the park address.
Cutoff rules apply: runners not reaching the second aid station at mile 7.7 within 2.5 hours or the third aid station at mile 10 within 3.5 hours will be given a ride back to the start/finish area. The event is presented by La Sportiva, a maker of technical mountain footwear and gear. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
