Vero Beach Octopus Ultra

The Vero Beach Octopus Ultra is held on the grounds of the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, FL. The event uses a centralized base camp with eight out and back "Octo-Arms" that runners complete in various combinations to achieve different distances. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Environmental Learning Center.

Distances offered include:

• 100 mile
• 100K
• 50 mile
• 50K
• Mini-Ultra (29.4 miles)
• Ultra Teaser (16.86 miles, Arm 1)
• Tentacle "Heavy" 5K Dash

Completing arms A1 through A4 results in a 50 mile distance; adding A5 produces a 100K. Finishing all eight arms within 32 hours earns an Octopus Buckle. The organizers list a uniform 32 hour time allowance for all distances. Leaving the course for any reason results in a DNF. Due to South Florida summer heat, organizers may remove participants at any time for health concerns. There are long sections with no water access.

Crew support is no longer mandatory but is strongly recommended; lack of a crew may significantly reduce the chance of finishing longer distances. The race organizer states this should not be a first 100 mile attempt and that first time 100 mile runners must have an experienced crew.
