The route is approximately 80% single track and 20% dirt forest road or two track. Runners on the 50K and marathon pass coastline on high bluffs, cross a cabled foot bridge at the mouth of the Two Hearted River, and run on the Giant Pines Trail where very old white pines are present. The half marathon is a loop that includes old growth white pine forest and a ridge above Clark Lake.

Aid stations are placed about 5-7 miles apart and are vehicle accessible. Runners must carry a refillable 20 oz water bottle or hydration system. Volunteers provide water, an electrolyte drink, energy gels and electrolyte supplements. Gear bags are transported back to the finish. Bus transportation is provided to the start for the 50K and marathon.
