Event Location and Purpose

The Trawsfynydd Multi Terrain 8 Miler is a running event held at Trawsfynydd lake in the Eryri National Park. The race starts and finishes near the Magnox Power Station car park in Blaenau Ffestiniog. This event serves as a fundraiser for the South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team, a charitable organization operated by volunteers who provide emergency assistance in the local area.

Course Information

The main route follows a multi-terrain path around the lake, covering a distance of 8.6 miles. The course consists of a mixture of tarmac surfaces and trails, with a total ascent of approximately 175m. The route includes one hill section on an otherwise flat terrain. The event is conducted in accordance with Welsh Athletics and UK Athletics regulations.

Participant Details

Registration for the primary race is available to individuals aged 17 and older. The event is limited to a maximum of 450 participants. Each runner is chip timed, and race materials, including numbers and timing chips, are distributed on-site on the day of the run. The course is supported by marshals and features water stations for the participants. In addition to the main race, shorter distances are available for younger participants. A 115 km multi-discipline race from Abersoch Beach to Snowdon summit and back, combining a sea swim, road cycling and a mountain ascent via The Watkin Path. The 2026 event reached a 400-person capacity and is currently sold out.
