The von Trapp Mountain Marathon takes place on October 17, 2026 at Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vermont, in the Green Mountains. The event offers trail race options over the following distances:
- Full marathon (two laps of the loop)
- Half marathon (one lap)
All entrants receive an event shirt, a race packet, and post-race food. Prizes are awarded to the first through third overall male and female finishers in each distance. A finishers award is listed as TBD. The organizer publishes an advance refund policy: entries are refundable minus a $25 service fee if the organizer is notified by August 31; after that date no refunds are issued.
Course and support
The course is a roughly 13.1 mile loop that full marathon runners complete twice. The loop is about two-thirds double-track trails and dirt roads and one-third serpentine, rugged single track. The route includes steep climbs and descents, a scrambling climb to the summit of Round Top Mountain, and views of Mount Mansfield. Runners gain about 1,900 ft of elevation per loop (about 3,800 ft for the full marathon).
Aid stations are located roughly at miles 4 and 9, plus a halfway aid/drop-bag location for full marathon runners. Stations provide water, flavored hydration, gels, snacks, fruit, and basic first aid. The race is cup-free; runners must carry their own bottle, pack, or collapsible cup.
