Event Overview

The Trailblazer 5K is a running and walking event scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026. It takes place in Athens, Georgia, primarily on the Firefly Trail, with the start and finish located in Dudley Park. This is a new event that precedes the "Ticket to Ride" event on the same day.

Course and Details

The 5K course is USATF certified and is an out-and-back route along the Firefly Trail. The event is part of the Black Bag Race Series, Clover Glove Race Series, and the 2026 Firefly Trail Race Series. Race day timing is provided by Classic Race Services.

Registration and Amenities

Registration for the 5K events is $25. The price for the Trailblazer 5K Walk/Run increases to $30 after March 6, 2026. T-shirts are guaranteed for registrations received by that date. The Fun Run is free for children 12 and under, and t-shirts for this event are available for purchase at $10 until March 6.

Beneficiary

The event raises funds for children's programming at the Heard Park Community Center in the East Athens neighborhood.

Awards

Awards will be given in the 5K for overall male/female, masters male/female, and the top three male/female finishers in 10-year age groups starting from 10 and under. All children 12 and under in the Fun Run receive a participation medal. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards or t-shirts. This February event offers a scenic 5K trail run through a conservation farm on the Broad River, followed by an optional group polar plunge. You can also sign up for the plunge alone. Proceeds benefit local water quality monitoring.

Trail races at Sandy Creek Park in Athens GA featuring lakeside views, creek crossings, and two distances, 5K and 15K. Finishers receive medals and place and age group awards; a pavement alternate is planned for unsafe trail conditions.

A trail-only race at Fort Yargo State Park near Winder, GA, offering a 50K (two 15.6-mile loops) and a 25K (one loop) with marked trails, staffed aid stations, drop-bag support, finisher medals, and timing.

Tackle rolling trails at Fort Yargo with Don's Backyard BBQ Trail Run offering 20K and 10K solo distances made of repeated 5K laps. Limited to 225 runners, the event includes a BBQ dinner and race shirt and supports the Yargo Trail Crew.
