Trail Run Australia - Sunshine Coast
Trail Run Australia - Sunshine Coast is a multi-format trail running festival held at Ewen Maddock Dam in Landsborough. The event features a unique endurance structure based on a 5 km lap. Participants attempt to complete one lap every hour on the hour. Unlike traditional backyard ultra formats, there are no eliminations; runners who miss a lap or fail to finish within the 59:59 minute time limit may rest and rejoin for any subsequent lap.
The course consists of approximately 3.99 km of single track and 0.91 km of fire trail through fern-filled rainforest and shady terrain in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Each lap includes an elevation gain and loss of 99 m.
Available event distances and formats include:
- 24hr Ultra: A full day-to-night challenge for individuals or teams.
- 10hr Ultra: Athletes select any 10 hours within the 24-hour window.
- 5hr Challenge: A Sunday morning event totaling 25 km if all laps are completed.
- 5km Finale: A single-lap run held alongside the final hour of the ultra events.
- Kids Mud Rats: A free fun run for children aged 5 to 9 on a 100-400 m circuit.
Participation is open to solo runners, pairs, and teams of four or six. Specific minimum age requirements apply to each distance, ranging from 8 years for accompanied fun run participants to 18 years for the solo 24-hour ultra. Compulsory equipment for all runners includes enclosed running shoes and a 500 ml water bottle, with head torches required for all overnight laps.
