Trail of the Dragon 50 Mile Run

The Trail of the Dragon 50 Mile Run, held in Ida Grove, Iowa at Moorehead Park, offers challenging trail running through rolling hills and historic sites. The course features 10-mile loops on single-track dirt and mowed meadows, with an elevation gain of about 1,000 feet per loop. Runners can choose between a 50K (three loops plus a 1-mile out-and-back) or a 50-mile race (five loops).

The route passes old stagecoach trails, a homestead, a cemetery, and a one-room schoolhouse, providing scenic and historic atmosphere. Aid stations are well-stocked with water, Hammer HEED, and various nutrition options. All finishers receive medals, and proceeds support the Ida County Conservation Foundation.
