Trail Camp For Big Kids

Robbinsville, United States • 23-26 Jul 2026

Event overview

Trail Camp for Big Kids is an adult trail running camp held in Robinsville, NC, based at Rattler Ford Group Campground in the Nantahala National Forest. The event runs from July 23 to July 26, 2026. The camp welcomes runners and non-runners and combines running with team building, navigation, community service, and camp activities such as campfire stories. Participants may join planned group runs or choose to run less; group runs are organized so people run together unless they opt to run alone.

Program and logistics

The weekend schedule is loose and includes an easy group shakeout run from camp, a longest day of trail options with on-trail lunch by participants, and open time on the final day with a possible sunrise at Maple Springs Overlook. Saturday morning will include a larger set of route options, some of which require a drive to trailheads. Trail conditions may include overgrowth, bugs, and wet sections, so participants are advised to run with a partner and carry navigation and hydration as needed.

There are on-site bathrooms, showers, and running water. Parking is limited; cars can be parked approximately 10-12 miles away at Nantahala headquarters and carpooling is recommended. Race events tied to the camp include:

  • 10 km (Deep Gap Trail 10k) : open to ages 18+
  • Half marathon (Mount Mitchell Trail) : open to ages 18+
  • 27 miles with 17,000 feet of elevation (Death Before DNF Marathon) : open to ages 18+

Participants should bring personal food for dietary needs and typical camping and trail gear. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
