Land and Lakes Relay : March 6, 2027
The Land and Lakes Relay is a one-day team relay that starts at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa and finishes at Fonta Flora Brewery-Whippoorwhill Farm in Nebo near Lake James. The 2027 event marks the fifth anniversary of the relay. The course travels east through Swannanoa into Black Mountain, circles Lake Tomahawk, follows much of the Geyser Growl Half Marathon route into Old Fort, passes through downtown Marion, and reaches the Lake James area before the final finish at the brewery farm.
Teams are capped at 60 and team captains register and pay the full team fee; remaining team members register free under that team name. Team sizes determine how many legs each runner runs; runners complete either two or three legs depending on team structure. Legs have been redesigned for several segments this year.
Safety requirements include wearing reflective vests and headlamps during early morning hours, and teams are encouraged to use flashing lights front and back. Teams are expected to be self-supporting with their own fluids and food; restrooms are available at most transfer points. Dogs are not permitted on course or at transfer points.
Timing uses bibs with chips and transfers are recorded at each transfer point. Post-race activities take place at Fonta Flora Brewery with a post-race party and awards presented during the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
