Lake James 7 Miler & 5k

Event overview

The Lake James Races is a trail event on April 4, 2026 at Fonta Flora Brewery - Whippoorwill Farm in Nebo, NC. The event offers chip-timed in-person and virtual options. In-person races take place on trails in Lake James State Park and include lake views and light rolling hills. Dogs and strollers are not allowed on race courses; they may remain at the brewery. Virtual participants are not eligible for awards and swag is mailed within the US.

Courses and logistics

Both courses begin with a loop around the Fonta Flora field before entering single-track trails. The 7 Miler includes single-track sections, two road crossings, and about 425 ft of elevation gain; there are no mile markers for the 7 Miler. The 5k includes single-track and a roughly 1 mile gravel single-track loop with about 123 ft of elevation gain. Aid stations provide water: the 7 Miler has three water-only aid stations (with restroom access noted at mile locations) and the 5k has one aid station passed twice. The road to runner parking will be temporarily closed during race starts; there is a main parking lot and an adjacent overflow gravel/grass lot.

Registration, awards and policies

Registration includes a wooden finisher medal, commemorative race shirt, one Fonta Flora beer for 21+ entrants, and a donation to the Lake James Environmental Association. Top finishers receive prize vouchers to Mountain Running Company and custom awards; age-group awards include Fonta Flora pint glasses. The event has a no-refund policy and allows transfers to virtual or other runners up to five days before the race. Postponement procedures and a contingency date are specified by the race director.
