Event Overview
The Tower Tag Challenge is a timed trail run in Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, CT. Participants run multiple out-and-back laps on the Tower Trail, which is mostly a crushed gravel carriage road.
Course Details
Each lap, referred to as a "Tower Tag," is 3.4 miles long. The route starts at a park pavilion, joins the Tower Trail within 0.2 miles, and ascends over 600 feet in 1.5 miles to the park's Observation Tower. The trail is mostly smooth, with a short paved section at the start and end of each loop. Participants go around the tower counter-clockwise before descending the same path.
Race Format
The event offers two timed race options: an 8-hour event and a 4-hour event. The goal is to complete as many laps as possible within the chosen time limit.
Location & Venue
The race is held at Sleeping Giant State Park, known for its trails and views. From the Observation Tower, visibility can extend to the Long Island Sound on clear days.
Participant Amenities
The event includes finisher medals. Awards are given to the top three overall male and female finishers in each timed distance. Food and beverages, including non-alcoholic options, are available post-race. A portion of the proceeds supports the Sleeping Giant Park Association.
