Tower Tag Challenge
The Tower Tag Challenge is a timed trail event held at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Connecticut on December 6. The event offers two options: an 8 Hour event and a 4 Hour event. The course is an out-and-back run on the Tower Trail, a mostly smooth carriage road that rises about 600 feet in roughly 1.5 miles to the Observation Tower. Each loop, starting from the pavilion, follows a winding crushed-gravel path up around the tower and returns the same way; each attempt is approximately 3.3 miles.
Logistics and rules
Entry fees range from about $50 to $80 depending on registration timing. A portion of proceeds supports the Sleeping Giant Park Association. There are no refunds or transfers of registration. Aid at the start/finish will include water or electrolyte drink and typical snack items. The event is "cupless" - runners must carry their own hydration bottle, pack, or cup. Swag includes a specially designed finisher medal from Ragged Cuts, sponsor items, and awards for the top three overall male and female finishers in each event. Parking is available just inside the park entrance and on the north side of Mt Carmel Avenue. Course rules include no littering, mandatory follow of marked course, port-a-johns at the bottom of the Tower Trail, no smoking or alcoholic beverages on course, and a strong discouragement of personal music devices for safety.
