Tower Tag Challenge : December 6, 2025
The Tower Tag Challenge is a timed trail-running event at Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden, Connecticut (200 Mt Carmel Ave). The event runs on December 6 and offers two formats: an 8-hour option and a 4-hour option. Runners complete repeated out-and-back laps on the same trail; only completed laps count toward totals and cutoffs apply.
Course and format
The course uses the Tower Trail, a mostly smooth carriage road that ascends more than 600 ft over about 1.5 miles to the park Observation Tower. Each lap starts at the pavilion, includes a short paved section at the start and end, follows a winding crushed-gravel path up to the tower, proceeds counterclockwise around the tower, and returns the same way. Each lap is approximately 3.3 miles. Aid at the start/finish will include water or electrolyte drink and typical food items. The event is cupless; runners must carry their own hydration bottle, pack, or cup.
Logistics, rules, and awards
Registration is nonrefundable and nontransferable. A portion of proceeds supports the Sleeping Giant Park Association. The organizer provides port-a-johns near the start/finish. Course markings and a .gpx file are suggested for navigation. Rules include no littering, no course cutting, respecting other trail users, and surrendering a bib at an aid station to register withdrawal. Awards include a specially designed finisher medal and podium awards for the top three overall male and female finishers in each event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
