Torc Wood Mountain Race

Torc Wood is an off-road running event located in County Kerry, organized by the Irish Mountain Running Association. The event features multiple distance options navigating through forested terrain and technical mountain paths. The route is fully marked, and the use of GPS devices for navigation is not permitted.

The course options include:

  • 8.90 km (Long Course) with 300 m of climb
  • 4.80 km (Short Course)

The long course begins with a 750 m uphill section before turning onto The Ledge. Runners encounter 3 km of fast downhill on forest roads, passing landmarks such as Killegy Lodge. The terrain transitions into technical sections, including the Lemmings single track and a steep double trail. The route also incorporates the Pine Needles single track before a flat sprint toward Mangerton Road. The return journey involves technical climbs via Murphs single track and Mossy Farm road, concluding with a run through the Bomb Holes section.

Safety regulations require a mandatory Level A kit for all participants, which includes a showerproof and windproof jacket. These items must be brought to the event, and race officials may perform random checks. Total entry for the event is limited to 120 participants. Due to limited space, carpooling is required from locations such as Muckross House, Springfield, or the Torc Waterfall car park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
