Mangerton Mountain Race

The Mangerton event is a mountain running race located in County Kerry. The course covers a distance of 9.60 km and features a total ascent of 700 meters. The race is part of the Munster Championship league.

The route consists of open mountain landscape and rough terrain. Participants navigate a course that is not marked, though the use of GPS devices is permitted. Due to the nature of the environment and the elevation gain, the event is classified under a high difficulty rating for terrain and ascent.

Participants are required to carry a mandatory Level C kit for the duration of the event. This equipment includes a waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams, waterproof full leg cover, a hat or buff, and gloves. Safety items such as a whistle, a foil blanket or bivvy bag, a map of the route or area, and a compass are also required.

Furthermore, runners must carry a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, emergency food, and the means to carry at least 500 mL of water. The specific items required on the day are finalized at registration based on local conditions. Random kit checks may be performed to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

The start of the race is located at Mangerton. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
