Tiree Ultramarathon

The Tiree Ultramarathon, also known as "The Land Below the Waves," is a running event that takes place on the island of Tiree. The course covers the complete circumference of the island, totaling 35 miles (56 km). Participants navigate a route that includes 14 beaches, rugged coastlines, and firm sandy stretches. The longest beach on the route is Gott Bay.

Participants can enter the event in two categories:

  • Individual 35 mile run
  • Relay team of 2

The race starts and finishes at the Scarinish Hotel by the harbour. Departing from Scarinish, runners head clockwise around the island, keeping the sea on their left-hand side. The course is marked with route arrows and supported by an event team. The race has a total cut-off time of 10 hours.

The event package includes a course map, technical t-shirt, medal, and a goodie bag for all participants. The race headquarters is located at The Scarinish Hotel throughout the weekend, which also hosts a prize-giving ceremony and a traditional island ceilidh on Sunday evening. The event is sponsored by the makers of Tyree Gin. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
