Tiree Ultramarathon

The Tiree Ultramarathon is a 35 mile run that follows the complete circumference of the island of Tiree. The island is described as 11 miles long and 6 miles wide, with white sandy beaches, unspoilt landscape and open coastal scenery. The full route visits 14 beaches, including Gott Bay which is the longest, and generally runs clockwise around the island keeping the sea on the left.

Participants follow a series of checkpoints with simple navigation between them. The course is marked with route arrows and supported by an event team. Each entrant receives a course map, a technical event t-shirt, a medal and a goodie bag. Entries can be individual or as relay teams of two. The organisers apply a cut off time of 10 hours.

Race headquarters and the start/finish area are at the Scarinish Beach Hotel by the harbour. Race weekend activity includes prize giving and an island ceilidh at the hotel, with live music and evening celebrations at Race HQ.

The event is sponsored by the makers of Tyree Gin. Entry terms note that all entries are non-refundable, with two transfer windows in January and April only, no deferals or refunds outside those terms. The organisers state that if the event must be cancelled for reasons outside their control there will be no refund of entry fees. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
