Tiree Ultramarathon : The Land Below the Waves
The Tiree Ultramarathon is a 35 mile run around the Isle of Tiree taking place on 06 Sep 2026. The route follows the island coastline and includes long stretches of firm sandy beach, gravel tracks, grassy dunes, sheep tracks, some boggy sections and rocky outcrops. There are a few hills but no sustained climbs are indicated.
Navigation uses a series of checkpoints with simple navigation between them. Route arrows and event staff guide progress. A printed course map and profile are provided in the event bag and online maps and profiles are also available. Cut off time for the full event is 10 hours. Entry includes a goodie bag, course map, medal and a tech t-shirt. All entry fees are non-refundable; event insurance is offered during sign up and the organiser's full cancellation policy is published.
Travel options to Tiree mentioned by the organiser include ferry from Oban or plane from Glasgow. Local transport suggestions include bike hire, bringing a bike or using a car share. Accommodation on Tiree includes group options, hostel, bunkhouse, B&B and self-catering cottages.
A two person relay follows the same 35 mile course with each runner covering roughly 18 miles. The relay changeover point is at Balevullin where there is a checkpoint, bag drop and first aid station.
