Thumbs Up Summer Slam

The event is held on the Thumb Open Space trail in Estes Park, Colorado, at about 7,522 ft elevation. It uses repeating 2 km out-and-back laps with approximately 540 ft of vertical gain per lap. Participants collect a poker chip at the turnaround on each lap; the participant with the most chips wins. The event runs from sunup to sundown and is limited to 35 participants with a $100 entry fee.

Award milestones are given for ascent counts and corresponding summit elevations:

  • 14 ascents - Estes Park 7,522'
  • 18 ascents - Deer Mountain 10,103'
  • 26 ascents - Longs Peak 14,259'

Registered participants receive a custom Nalgene and achievement pins designed by Space Coyote Tattoo for the listed milestones. Aid station details will be announced closer to the event; self-sufficiency is expected for an event of this nature. All races are cupless; participants should bring their own cup or may obtain a Running Wild reusable cup during registration for $5. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
