The Tommy Runs 2026

The Tommy Runs take place on Sunday 1 November 2026, the Sunday before Remembrance Sunday. The event is set along the Seaham seafront and uses road, promenade, and coastal trail sections. Races begin at the Tommy War Memorial Statue and a one minute silence is observed before each race.

The statue, officially titled 1101 (Eleven-O-One), depicts a reflective World War I soldier in the first minute of peace after the Armistice and honours the archetypal private soldier known as Tommy Atkins.

Distances

  • 5 km run, age 11+, closed roads and about 80 ft elevation
  • 10 km run, age 15+, seafront course on mixed terrain

A 90 minute cut-off applies because of road closures. The event is organised as a running race and is not suitable for walkers. Dogs are not permitted and the event is not Canicross friendly.

Live chip timing is provided by Timing Up North and results are produced on completion. All finishers receive an event medal, an event T-shirt, and a snack. Public car parking is available in Seaham. A donation from ticket sales will be made to the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
