Tommy Runs 2026

The Tommy Runs return to the Seaham seafront on the Sunday preceding Remembrance Sunday. This event features a coastal course that utilizes a combination of roads, the promenade, and coastal trails. The starting point is located at the Tommy War Memorial Statue on North Terrace, a reflective sculpture depicting a World War I soldier. A one-minute silence is observed before the commencement of the races to honor the occasion.

Participants can choose between two main distances:

  • 5 km road race (minimum age 11)
  • 10 km road race (minimum age 15)

The 5 km route takes place on closed roads and features 80 feet of elevation. The 10 km course offers a scenic route along the seafront on mixed terrain. Due to road closure requirements, a strict 90-minute cut-off time is in effect for both distances. This event is designed exclusively for runners and is not suitable for walkers. Furthermore, the event does not permit dogs or participation in the cani-cross category.

The races feature live chip-timing for accurate results. Upon reaching the finish line, all participants receive an event medal, a t-shirt, and a snack. Public car parking is available throughout Seaham for those traveling to the venue. The event also supports a Sunderland-based charity that assists families and children during hospital treatments.
