The STAR Backyard - Shere
The STAR Backyard is a three-hour trail running challenge located in the Surrey Hills. Participants run a 5 km lap repeatedly within the three-hour time limit. The event is hosted at Shere Manor House and takes place partly after dark.
The course features a variety of terrain including a 1.3 km climb via a ford, wooded sections, and footpaths along Sherbourne Road. The route passes landmarks such as the Saxon Church and Silverwood before returning to the start point at Shere Manor House. Although the course is fully signed, marshals are only present for the first lap. Use of a headtorch is mandatory for all laps completed after dark.
This is a no-frills event that does not use chip timing. Instead, runners receive a race number and collect a wristband for every completed lap. On-site support includes pre-and post-event massages, kinesiology taping, and injury assessments. Refreshments are included in the entry fee.
Parking is available at the Shere Recreation Ground Car Park, and the organizers encourage car sharing due to limited space. The event is open to participants aged 18 and over. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
