The Event
The South Hams Ultra is a running event that offers three route distances: 100 miles, 44 miles, and a marathon (26.2 miles). All routes finish at Mothecombe on the Flete Estate in Devon. The 44-mile race starts at Old Town Mill in Totnes, while the marathon starts at the Old School Community Centre in South Brent.
The Route
The 100-mile route is a circumnavigation of South Hams, primarily following the South Hams Way. It uses public rights of way, bridleways, and coastal paths. The route traverses parts of Dartmoor National Park, countryside, and five estuaries. Key locations passed include the Erme estuary, Bigbury, Aveton Gifford, Salcombe (with a ferry crossing to East Portlemouth), Dartmouth, Totnes, Buckfastleigh, South Brent, Ivybridge, and Noss Mayo.
Checkpoints & Services
There are eight checkpoints for the 100-mile route, four for the 44-mile, and three for the marathon. Checkpoints are located at places like Aveton Gifford, East Portlemouth, Start Point, Dartmouth, Totnes, Buckfastleigh, Ivybridge, and Noss Mayo.
Services included for participants are GPS trackers, marshals, professional first aid, parking, a finisher's medal, prizes for category winners, a bag drop, feed stations, and a pre-paid ferry crossing.
