The Sand Monster : event overview

The Sand Monster is a timed 6-hour trail race held on March 15, 2026, at Sesquicentennial State Park in Columbia, South Carolina (9564 Two Notch Road). The event is organized as a six-hour endurance run on a looped trail course. Race organizers provide race-day swag and a Boco Technical Trucker hat for athletes and volunteers, portable toilets, and a post-race awards presentation and raffle.

Course, format and awards

The course is a 3.5-mile loop with about 270 feet of vertical gain per loop. Trails include a mix of single track and double track, sections covered in pine needles, and one longer sandy climb. The route is shaded in many places and will be well marked.

The event is a timed format: laps completed must be finished within the 6-hour cutoff to count. A single completed loop is sufficient to be recorded as a finish. If runners complete the same number of laps, finishing order on the last completed lap determines placing. Organizers plan awards for the top four overall male and female finishers, top male and female grand masters (50+), selected spirit and novelty awards, and a raffle during the awards presentation. There are no individual age-group awards. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
