The Sesquilizer is a timed road/trail race held on November 22, 2026 in Columbia, South Carolina, using an age- and gender-equalized start format. The course distance is 8.67 miles with roughly 700 feet of elevation gain. Course files and activity uploads are provided via common platforms including Strava and Garmin.
The event uses 22 start groups. Twenty-one groups depart at one-minute intervals before the final group, and the last-starting group marks the official race clock. The first group to depart contains women 66 and older and men 74 and older. Runners who wish to run together must choose the later of the two assigned start groups.
Awards and participant items reflect the equalized format. Awards are expected for the top eight overall finishers rather than separate age or gender categories. There will also be a raffle and each starter receives a unisex t-shirt in sizes XS through XL; shirts have no logos on the back.
Organizers note the start-format may be evaluated and adjusted after events to better match results, but changes will not be made solely in response to a single outlier.
