Salmon Run - Wild Running and Tidelines
Salmon Run is an organised running event that follows the Exe Valley Way from Exmouth to Dulverton. It is offered as a single-run ultra of 43 miles and as a team relay composed of shorter legs. The route travels from the sea toward salmon spawning grounds on Exmoor.
Distances:
- 43 miles (Ultra)
- Relay sections from 2 miles up to 12 miles per leg
The relay is non-competitive. Teams of up to eight people run one section each and pass a symbolic Salmon baton between different teams. The ultra covers the full route to the Green in Dulverton. Organisers advise runners to carry torches. The event has a 12-hour cut-off and a total ascent of 1050 metres. All finishers receive a medal.
The event is presented by Wild Running in collaboration with the Tidelines project. Tidelines works with the Westcountry Rivers Trust and volunteer river groups to highlight river health issues, including barriers to fish movement. Along the route there are intermittent musical performances, community orchestras and games, a welcome-ashore ceremony at Exmouth, and a short ceremonial performance at Dulverton. A GPX map is available, and some organised transport from Dulverton to registration may be provided for those who book it. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
