Salmon Run

Salmon Run is a community running event that follows the Exe Valley Way from the Exmouth seafront to Dulverton. The event comprises an individual ultra and a team relay that travel the same route and draw attention to the ecological challenges facing Exe salmon.

The ultra covers 43 miles and finishes on the Green in Dulverton. The route includes about 1050 meters of ascent and has a 12 hour cutoff; runners are advised to carry torches. The relay is non competitive and involves teams of up to eight people each running a single section while carrying a symbolic salmon baton that is passed along different teams. Relay sections vary between 2 and 11 miles.

The event starts from Sideshore Queen's Drive Space, Exmouth EX8 2GD, and follows river paths and communities along the Exe. On the route there is intermittent live music, a family orchestra at Exwick, local games and ceremonial performances including a welcome ashore in Exmouth and a short finish ceremony in Dulverton. Everyone receives a medal. A GPX map and additional route maps are available and the event is presented by Wild Running in collaboration with the Tidelines project and local river restoration partners including Westcountry Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Exe and Riverfly Survey.
