The Salmon Run Ultra
Exmouth, United Kingdom • 19 Sep 2026
Salmon Run
Salmon Run is an event that follows the River Exe route from Exmouth to Dulverton. It includes a solo ultra distance and a team relay that travel along much of the Exe Valley Way toward salmon spawning grounds on Exmoor. The event is presented by Wild Running in collaboration with the Tidelines project.
Distances offered:
- 43 miles ultra
- Relay sections from 11 to 2 miles
The relay is non-competitive. Teams of up to eight participants each run a single section while carrying a symbolic Salmon baton that is passed between different teams. The ultra covers the full route to Dulverton, with a total ascent of 1050 metres and a 12 hour cut off; runners are advised to bring torches. Everyone receives a medal.
The event highlights the decline of Atlantic salmon in the Exe catchment and supports river-restoration partners such as Westcountry Rivers Trust, Friends of the River Exe and Riverfly Survey. On the route there are planned community features including intermittent music, local performances, a welcome ceremony at Exmouth and a short ceremony or dance at Dulverton. The first relay leg includes a collaboration with Exmouth Parkrun along the shoreline.
Practical details available include a GPX map and a booked bus service from Dulverton to registration on Exmouth seafront. Further logistical information is provided by the organisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
