THE ROC Wales 2026 : Abersoch, United Kingdom
THE ROC Wales is scheduled for Saturday 9 May 2026 in Abersoch LL53. The event combines open-water swimming, road cycling and mountain running with a finish on Abersoch beach. Relay entries are available for teams of two or three, with each member completing one discipline.
Distances
- 1.5 km swim
- 100 km cycle
- 13 km run
The course starts and finishes on Abersoch beach. The swim is a 1.5 km loop in the sheltered waters of the bay that returns to the start area. The bike leg covers approximately 50 km each way, taking competitors from Abersoch into the Snowdon massif and passing Criccieth Castle. Transition at Nant Gwynant or Hafod y Llan is used for the mountain section.
The mountain leg uses the Watkin Path up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), with a roughly 6 km ascent to the summit and a steep final kilometre. Competitors must reach the 4 km checkpoint on the ascent by 12:00 noon to continue to the summit; if not, they must turn around and complete the remaining course from that point. After the summit there is a return run to transition, a return cycle to Abersoch and a final 1 km beach run to the finish.
Facility and logistics notes include paid parking near the start and T1, Pwllheli as the nearest train station 6.8 miles away with a bus connection, digital race packs issued four weeks before the race, mandatory wetsuits for the swim, and a specified kit list for the Snowdon section. Drinks and recharge stations are located at Criccieth and Hafod y Llan with emergency stations at the 4 km checkpoint and Snowdon summit. The event offers chip-timed results, a bespoke medal, prize money for first man and woman, mountain leader marshals, post-race refreshments and music.
