The Ridgeway Relay
The Ridgeway Relay is a team relay organised by Marlborough Running Club along The Ridgeway national trail. The Ridgeway itself covers 86.5 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Overton Hill near Marlborough. The relay leaves The Ridgeway about 2 miles before Overton Hill and continues across Fyfield Down to a finish in Marlborough.
The event is run over ten legs with varying lengths. The route is described as scenic, hilly and off‑road. Teams are responsible for their own route planning and on‑day support, and entrants are advised to recce their leg in advance. Teams compete for a trophy on the basis of the shortest total time to complete the course. Cut-off times are applied on some legs to manage the overall schedule, but missing a cut-off does not result in disqualification; it may mean the next leg is started before the previous runner arrives.
Entry and composition rules require at least two legs to be run by female runners. For teams entered as mostly female, up to two legs may be run by male runners. Competitors may run more than one leg, provided each leg is completed in full and all changeovers take place at the designated locations.
