The Red Centre Wringer Backyard Ultra
The Red Centre Wringer is a backyard ultra organised by the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club at the Telegraph Station Historical Reserve in Alice Springs. The event uses the East/Stuart/Arrwe loop, a trail with varied terrain that is primarily single track and intended to showcase local trail running conditions.
The course for this edition is 6.7056 kilometers per loop and will be run anticlockwise. As a backyard ultra, the format requires each participant to complete one loop every hour; participants continue to run hourly loops until only one person remains. The event is open-ended with no preset end time.
Event rules provided by the organiser specify that runners must be ready in the starting corral at the bell for each loop, all loops begin precisely one hour apart, and warning signals are given in the minutes before each start. Competitors may not leave the course during a loop except to use restrooms, and no personal aid is permitted on a loop though common aid stations are allowed. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are prohibited. Loop timing is optional and the winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than others, there is no winner. Results will record distance covered by each participant.
The event is described as grassroots and community oriented, with volunteers involved in event support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
