Run Larapinta Stage Race

Run Larapinta is a four day stage trail race that uses sections of the Larapinta Trail in the Alice Springs region of the Northern Territory, Australia. The event runs from Friday 14 to Monday 17 August 2026 and features two course options: a long course called Malbunka and a short course called Namatjira.

Malbunka long course stages:

  • Stage 1: 19.5 km from Old Telegraph Station to the Mercure
  • Stage 2: 41 km from Simpsons Gap to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 3: 33 km from Birthday Waterhole turn off to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 4: 34 km from Ochre Pits to Ellery Creek Waterhole

Namatjira short course stages:

  • Stage 1: 13.5 km from Old Telegraph Station to the Mercure
  • Stage 2: 20 km Standley Chasm high route loop
  • Stage 3: 22 km from Birthday Waterhole to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 4: 27 km from Counts Point turn off to Ellery Creek Waterhole

Terrain includes boulder fields, ridge line scrambles and dry sandy river beds with extensive rocky sections. Daily distances vary by course and stage, with individual stages ranging from 13.5 km to 41 km. The event provides full race support with logistics and competitor services organised. An entry update dated 27 October 2025 notes that full four stage entries reached capacity and limited single stage entries remain with a wait list available.
