Run Larapinta Stage Race

Run Larapinta is a four day stage trail running race on sections of the Larapinta Trail near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, Australia. The 2026 event is scheduled Friday 14 to Monday 17 August 2026. Entries for 2026 are at capacity and a single stage entry option is available. 2027 entries are due to open on Wednesday 4 November 2026.

The event is organised over four consecutive stages with long and short course options named Malbunka and Namatjira. Terrain includes boulder fields, ridge line scrambles and dry sandy river beds, with daily distances varying between stages.

Malbunka (long course)

  • Stage 1: 19.5 km Alice Springs Old Telegraph Station to the Mercure
  • Stage 2: 41 km Simpsons Gap to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 3: 33 km Birthday Waterhole turn-off to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 4: 34 km Ochre Pits to Ellery Creek Waterhole

Namatjira (short course)

  • Stage 1: 13.5 km Alice Springs Old Telegraph Station to the Mercure
  • Stage 2: 20 km Standley Chasm high route loop
  • Stage 3: 22 km Birthday Waterhole to Standley Chasm
  • Stage 4: 27 km Counts Point turn-off to Ellery Creek Waterhole

Organisers provide full race support with logistics and competitor services arranged for participants. The event typically involves a field of around 200 runners and focuses on multi day trail running across noted sections of the Larapinta Trail. Trail run and walk at Emily Gap on 4 July 2026 organised by the Alice Springs Running and Walking Club. Options include a 16.00 km self sufficient course and a 7.50 km out and back; registrations are not currently available.
